A Student's Voice
As a student, your voice can do only so much. Even in large numbers. Adults will sometimes look at you and think that we are too young to understand the hardships or that we could never possibly grasp what they went through. They look down on us thinking we don’t know much and that we are too immature. But sometimes they are wrong. It is true that it is different from back then. But that means they don’t understand the difficulties we face. Depression at an early age is tough when you haven’t set foot in the outside world and is having a struggle to even take a step. Suicide lurks in some teens mind, the drive to want to die is different from needing to live another day. Back then, you would have to struggle to live another day because of your circumstances not because of your mind. Cutting is a sign that we need help and is struggling to find a way out. Depression cannot always be fixed with a pill. We are students. Although we are young and have not faced the hardships of the older generation we have our own hardships that the older generation didn’t face. Our lives now may be different, but the fact that we have problems in both lives in our similarity. We should not fight and argue about the past or the present, the hardships will always come at us no matter the age. And all of us will have to get through it. That is what makes us similar. But sometimes you don’t get that. You give us a generic answer to our problems and think it is solved.
Suicide, don’t kill yourself, think about the people who love you.
Depression, you will get through this, here take these pills.
Self-harm, don’t do that, you’re ruining your body.
Sometimes we have these things because of the generation before us. You can try to turn it around on us but in the end, if it your fault we are hurt by your words, we won’t be the one feeling guilty of our own deaths.
